James and I have had our fill of st. George recently. We went up for a sprint triathlon (my first one!) that a bunch of our friends were doing. Angela and Thomas Fjelstead, Erin and Jordan Colby, Nicole and Matt Poulton, & Lyndsey cosgrave. It was so much fun!
My time was 1 hr 26 min. My goal was 1 hr 30 min so I reached my goal by 4 min! I probably should have set a more competitive goal for myself, but I had no idea what to expect.
I have been wanting to do a sprint triathalon for a while now, but had to learn to swim (I've never swam laps before, and was pretty intimidated by it). But I joined the local country club and practiced about 2 or 3 times week and got the hang of it pretty quickly. In the actual race it took a while for me to get oriented and focused, because the pool was so deep and the place was so loud. Plus I kept getting water in my goggles at the beginning. The distance for the swim was 8 laps, (16 lengths about 400 meters). The guy counting my laps miscounted and I know I had at least one lap left, possibly 2. I questioned him but didn't push the issue since it was in my favor.
Angela placed first in her age group, Erin second place in her age group, and James finished in 3rd place in his age group. James parents were kind enough to come down and help us with the kids as well as cheer us on (and pay for a hotel). They are the best.
My time
That was three weeks ago. Now we are in St. George again for James' half iron man. He's a little nervous to say the least...especially for the bike portion. I don't blame him. It's 56 miles with many hills and canyon climbs. We came up on Wednesday so that he could get acclimated to the altitude here. The swim is 1.2 miles and the run is 13 miles.
The Poultons let us stay at their house, even while they are gone (!). We also had the chance to meet up with Annie and James and go swimming with them. I couldn't find Eden's swimsuit so we squoze her into Levi's, which was size 3 months and the top was newborn size . I think it fit her better than him though!

He survived the race! Not only survived, but enjoyed it! Overall time, 5 hrs, 45 minutes. I am one proud wife. But mostly just happy that it's over, and hope he doesn't do another one for a long time. It was a lot of time, money, and stress!
Once we got home Benson was begging us to do a triathalon. So we set up a small one for him and his friends...unfortunately though, he was the only one who didn't finish it. After doing the swim portion, he refused to get on the bike without shoes. We tried our best to coax him to finish, but too no avail. He's such a stubborn boy.
